The AW15 London Fashion Week show was closed by H by Hakaan Yildirim (winner of the DHL Exported programme for London Fashion Week) – a well-deserved win at that.
The queue for the show was vibrant with a diverse crowd of fashion lovers. The vibe outside of the show could only prepare the audience for what was to come. Hakaan has undoubtedly been recognised for his feminine couture designs. For his AW15 collection, he has elegantly designed his trademark, feminine and sexy silhouettes, and has created them from a structural base with relaxed looks and masculine attitude.
The show takes inspiration from 70s documentary ‘Grey Gardens’ in which Hakaan references to the unique and creativity of one of the characters Edie. The corset lacing detail in the dresses reflect the boldness and fearlessness of the character parallel to the renowned characters’ heretical style; the 70’s windswept head scarves (now commonly recognised as a Middle Eastern staple style). What depicts the movie, the era and the characters in the collection is the way in which wool, viscoe, silk and velvet fabrics meet black, green, red, cream and light beige tones that dominate the collection, maintaining a timeless silhouette. Leather and fur detailed pieces are commonly used in the collection as hats and metal accessories are outstanding.
