No matter what the occasion, profession you work in, or style you like to adopt, there are five staple shirts that should be in your wardrobe for SS17. These shirts are versatile, dependable and stylish all at the same time. The key to success when it comes to shirts, is getting the right shape and having a shirt to suit every occasion. If you have these shirts in your wardrobe then you should be set for whatever life throws at you, whether it’s an important board meeting, social function or wedding.
Below are five men’s shirts picks that will stay on trend for 2017.
1. Crisp White Oxford
The crisp white Oxford should be at the top of your list of shirts to invest in. A smart, white shirt will always guarantee results and is a timeless piece for either work or casual wear. Combined with this season’s colour trend of soft pastels the Oxford will perform well with looking smart or relaxed and casual against pocket squares or chinos.
2. The Check
Although country checks have been around for decades, we’ll see them being worn more and more this season. Checked shirts have developed from their once simple design to a whole range of materials and print designs. Predictions for 2015 men’s fashion trends include dressed-down suiting and bold prints, making this casual shirt a must have this year. The checked shirt is ideal for when you want to mix up your wardrobe a little to stand out from the crowd. Choose a vibrant colour choice or go simple with black and white check. Gingham checks are proving particularly popular for SS15. Team your country check shirt with a solid colour knitted tie to counteract the bold pattern.
3. Smart Cotton
Having a selection of smart cotton shirts in your wardrobe is an essential for the everyday modern man. Light material makes way through Spring into Summer and is neutral, soft and breathable. It’s a good choice of material to wear to a big meeting, lengthy event or during long working days. Brushed cotton is an even better option as it is brushed for an ultra-soft finish.
4. Grandad collar shirt
Want to go collarless? Don’t be afraid to ditch the collar in 2015, make sure you have a grandad collar shirt in your wardrobe. They are a fresh update on the classic shirt. Grandad collar shirts were originally a fashion trend from the Middle East and China. They have now become a sought after style in the West, where open collared shirts are more acceptable at informal events. Stylish men can now inject something a little unique into their choice of outfit. You can wear this shirt underneath a tailored suit jacket or simply on its own. Chinos or plain trousers work particularly well with this season’s Grandad.
5. Plain blue Shirt
Blue is going to be huge for SS15 and is an extremely popular colour at the moment, especially when it comes to men’s suits. A blue shirt will always come in handy and is great if you don’t want to go for white, but still need a safe option. Blue shirts can be worn as part of a suit, with a cardigan or a pair of chinos. Blue is a great all round colour and most people will suit at least one or two shades of blue. If you prefer to stand out go for bright blue colours or for a more subtle look choose pale blue or navy.
